The Banyon Tree

Spreading roots that straddle wide
shelter made for one to hide
shaded
tangled
staggered ‘round
crawling, twining
just 'neath the ground
arms of roots that reach for help
seem to hold each other up
like a great family they stretch
bonding tight, not one lone wretch,
as if a clan unified,
appears as a forest dignified.

Yet all these "branches" spring from the base
and reunite to make a place
where all the broken hearts may come
And the word was God, and Three in One

See the ancient Banyan for how we can be
All at once justice and liberty
Love and truth will meet; justice and peace will kiss*
but not one soul, tiny or old, left amiss.
Wise ancient roots raised high in praise
that we may all in peace live out our days
And God have mercy for what we left
that no heart near mine was made bereft.
